We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Dairy Assistant / 2IC to join our progressive dairy operation located just a short drive from Ashburton.
Our farm milks approximately 600 cows through a modern 50-bail rotary shed and operates a range of irrigation systems, including pivots and other irrigation infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further develop their dairy farming career in a supportive and well-managed environment.
The Role
As Senior Dairy Assistant / 2IC, you will work closely with the Farm Manager and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the farm. Responsibilities include:
- Milking and dairy shed management
- Animal health monitoring and treatment
- Feeding and pasture management
- Irrigation operation and maintenance
- Tractor and machinery operation
- General farm maintenance
- Record keeping and compliance tasks
- Assisting with staff supervision when required
- Taking responsibility for farm operations in the manager's absence
What We're Looking For
- Previous dairy farming experience, ideally in a Senior Dairy Assistant or similar role
- Strong understanding of animal health and pasture management
- Experience operating rotary dairy sheds
- Irrigation experience preferred
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Full New Zealand driver's licence
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand
