About our Client

Our Selwyn based client has been operating their agricultural contracting business for over 2 decades. Their contracting operations consist of bailing, cultivation,  drilling, Ag spreading, silage production, fodderbeet harvesting, combine harvesting and carting. Their fun and passionate team is made up of 18 full timers and grows to 25-30 with WHV over the seasonal peaks. Our client is big on continued learning and development of their team resulting in long lasting employees that have been with them for years! 

 

About the Role

You'll  set out from the yard and work on an arable farms and pastures in Selwyn and the Mid Canterbury region.  Our client's yard, equipment, and machinery are exceptionally well-maintained, clean and tidy. Their other staff are a down-to-earth, hard-working bunch with great daily banter and laughs.  A bunch all proud to be working with one of Canterbury's well established agricultural contracting business.

Your primary responsibility is to operate a Fertilizer Spreader. The spreaders run Topcon Spreading and Tracmap Software. In this role you will operate our clients mid truck for crop and pasture spreading. This truck has Cropspec camaras for on demand variable rate nitrogen spreading

This is the perfect opportunity for a local as this is a long-term role.

  • Operating and maintaining fertilizer spreader and machinery in a safe and effective manner
  • Meeting all health and safety standards
  • Preparing and operating other farm machinery if required, e.g., forklifts, tractors, telehandlers
  • Maintaining, cleaning, and carrying out minor repairs to machinery
  • Completing safety checks and risk assessments before operating machinery
  • Operating machinery in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintaining good environmental practice standards

About You

You are an experienced Fertilizer Spreader Operator or an experienced truck driving keen to develop your skills and enter a new industry. You have a can-do attitude and you know how to look after the machinery like it was your own. If you have previous experience in a similar crop farming environment or dairy farming this will be highly beneficial. 

  • Minimum Class 4 New Zealand Drivers License (ideally Class 5)
  • Experience operating a fertilizer spread and spreading software advantageous 
  • Follow farm protocols to deliver good environmental practice
  • Meet the relevant health and safety standards
  • Be reliable with a positive attitude to work. A commitment to the long term!
  • Good interpersonal & organizational skills 
  • Keen to "do the do" and work overtime if required in the peak seasons
