About the Role

You’ll report directly to the Farm Manager who has been on this farm for 6 years and has extensive dairy knowledge. Our Client has a beautiful 440-ha farm that is very similar to a Canterbury dairy landscape and offer a great working environment with a culturally diverse, close-knit team. 1500 cows are milked in a 80 bale rotary in 3 mobs. There are 2 people cupping on and 1 on cups off. Its a big operation, you must be confident in milking, but one that runs smoothly and effectively making an enjoyable place to work.

You’ll be responsible for helping with the day-to-day milking and herd feeding, as well as with some general farm work. You’ll carry out milking and teat spraying, ensuring it’s efficient and stress-free for the animals and ensuring only the finest quality milk is presented for collection.

An immediate start is available. The roster this time of year is 6 on 2 off, between January and May will move to a 8, 2, 8 3 roster

  • Clean and maintain equipment and yards
  • Help identify and treat common animal health problems
  • Carry out milking and teat spraying
  • Perform general farm work as required like fencing, spraying, feeding out

 

About You

You have at least a couple seasons of experience on a dairy farm and are able to work independently and milk by yourself. You’re a hard worker keen to get stuck in and do what’s needed to make this dairy farm run smoothly. Eager to learn, you pick up new skills quickly and are a hands-on person.

  • You can confidently ride a 2-wheeler 
  • Confident and efficient in the milking shed
  • Confident in strip grazing and setting up fences
  • Confident in detecting basic herd health issues like mastitis etc
  • Good team attitude
  • Full Class 1 driver’s license essential (international accepted)

 

What’s On Offer

  • Base salary of $67,000
  • Accommodation available: option of single or shared
  • PPE and work clothes provided: 4 pairs of overalls, gumboots, wet weather gear, gloves, 
  • Immediate start available
  • Roster May- Aug 5:2, Aug – Jan 6:2, Jan-May 8:2:8:3
